Lesson 4: Restoring the Garden of Eden

A. Answer the questions about the letter on Students Book page 79.

1. Where did Layla go on holiday?

Al-Hamaar marchland, in the south of Iraq.

They eat fish, birds, rice and butter, cheese and yoghurt made from the buffalo and are arch-shaped.

They travel by canoe.

5. What do the people lack?

Health care, education and drinking water.

6. Why are these marshes so important?

They are important for the environment, and the lives of people, animals and birds.

7. What destroyed a large area of the marshes?

They were dried out in 1990s.

8. Why do you think it's important to restore the marshes? What will happen if we don't?

Because they are a source of life for people, animals and birds. If we don't restore them, we will lose a big source of natural wealth.

B. Complete the sentences with probably, perhaps or definitely.
