B. Put the verbs in the past simple or past continuous.

• Ali (sit) was sitting in a café. He was (read) reading a book. He (wait) was waiting for his friend Jassim.
• He (hear) heard a taxi stop and he (look) looked up.
• He (see) saw his friend Jassim He (get) got out of the taxi very slowly.
• "What's the matter?" Ali (think) thought.
• Then he (see) saw Jassim (have) had a broken leg.
